The Port of Barcelona, the Escola Europea and CaixaBank Dualiza bring together companies and teachers to promote talent acquisition

A hundred professionals from companies and training centres met at a conference organised by the Training and Employment Committee of the Governing Council for the Promotion of the Port Community of Barcelona, promoted together with CaixaBank Dualiza.

The Training and Employment Committee of the Governing Council for the Promotion of the Port Community of Barcelona managed by the Escola Europea, together with CaixaBank Dualiza, today held a day dedicated to attracting talent in the Aula dels Estels at the Escola Europea. The day consisted of two main parts: the first part in conference format and the second focused on speed dating (mini interviews) for companies and teachers.

The conference was opened by Catalina Grimalt, Deputy Director General for Organisation and Internal Resources of the Port of Barcelona; Gemma Verdés, representative of the Barcelona Education Consortium; and José Manuel García Trany, Director of Business Centres at CaixaBank Barcelona. The members of the Governing Council’s Training and Employment Committee then shared the most recent activities carried out by the group, as well as multiple future projects. José del Moral, an expert in recruiting in the logistics-port sector, was the keynote speaker, in which he explained the key elements for attracting talent.

Fabián Mohedano, Executive President of the Public Agency for Vocational Training and Qualification of Catalonia, and Eduard Rodés, Director of the Escola Europea, closed the first part of the conference, reaffirming the commitment of both entities to establishing close links between the business sector, training centres and public institutions.

In the second part of the day, companies and teachers held an exchange of opinions, ideas and opportunities for collaboration with the aim of specifying the implementation of teaching placements within companies. In total, more than 100 people took part, with an estimate of 90 interviews between companies and training centres.

Teacher placements in companies allow the trainer to get to know the reality of the business world, which he/she will then pass on to the students and, therefore, makes it easier for students to obtain knowledge adapted to what the sector really needs.

In the same way, the teacher can provide a different and enriching vision of the work that is carried out and will get to know the day-to-day work of the company and the real operations that are carried out. It is also intended to establish a personal relationship between the teacher and the company staff, which will facilitate a subsequent fluid relationship and exchange of knowledge between them all.

The Training and Employment Committee of the Port of Barcelona’s Governing Board has once again committed itself to bringing the sector and training centres closer together, with the aim of enabling the Port of Barcelona and all the companies that make it up to capture the talent of future professionals from their training.

For its part, CaixaBank Dualiza wanted to highlight the importance of vocational training in the formation of this new talent, as well as its capacity to provide solutions to the issue regarding a lack of professionals in many sectors.
