Forma’t al Port

What is it?

The project started in the year 2014. From the beginning and during the first three-year period (2014-2017), new sponsors and centers were incorporated. The second three-year period continued from 2017 to 2020. In 2020, despite the Covid-19 crisis, activities continued, and the third three-year period lasts until 2023.

The Introduction courses are scheduled for spring for students in the 1st year of vocational training and university degree programs. The Talent courses are conducted in the fall for students in the 2nd year of vocational training.

In the Introduction courses, the content will be taught in English, Catalan, and Spanish, and all documentation will be delivered entirely in English. The Talent courses are conducted entirely in English. The goal is to familiarize students with the use of the English language in the fields of transport, logistics, and international trade.

The mandatory and free participation of one accompanying teacher per center and for every 20 students is included in the Introduction courses. In the case of Talent training, teachers receive a discount for accompanying students.

In the “Forma’t al Port – Talent” training, students receive a certificate of completion and a skills and competencies report based on their professional profile, and they become part of a job placement pool available to companies in the Barcelona port community.

Commitment to education
The Port of Barcelona, in collaboration with the Escola Europea – Intermodal Transport, the Provincial Council of Barcelona, the Barcelona City Council, and the Consorci de la Zona Franca, shares a commitment to education through the Forma’t al Port project.
Highly trained logistics community
In the current landscape, where the strategic logistics positioning of Barcelona and Catalonia is paramount, encompassing both territorial and socio-economic facets, it demands the implementation of infrastructure improvements and the delivery of competitive services. Above all, it necessitates a human catalyst: a highly-trained logistics community capable of steering Barcelona and Catalonia towards a leadership role in European and global logistics.
Comprehensive knowledge of the logistics sector
Forma’t al Port emerges as a pivotal initiative. Its primary goal is to equip today’s students, the future professionals, with comprehensive knowledge of the logistics sector, with a special focus on maritime activities and intermodal transport.
Dual training
Forma’t al Port bridges the gap between educational institutions, businesses, and professional associations, creating a platform for constructive dialogue. This framework streamlines collaborative efforts and initiatives, enhancing the educational process for students. By addressing the evolving labour market needs and fostering dual training, it empowers students to seamlessly combine classroom education with real-world, hands-on experience.

OBJECTIVES

Facilitate that students from the upper cycle of International Trade, Transport and Logistics, and University Degrees in Marine Technologies, Nautical and Maritime Transport, Systems and Naval Technology Engineering, and Logistics and Maritime Business in the training centers within the Barcelona area, firsthand acquaintance with the Port of Barcelona, its infrastructure, logistics facilities, and operations.
Provide companies in the sector, through associations, with a platform to showcase the characteristics of their activities and the professional profiles they require for proper development.
Collaborate in creating a framework for dialogue and exchanges between logistics sector companies and training centers to promote sector development.
Contribute to aligning the training needs of companies with the curricula designed and delivered in training centers.
Motivate companies to hire students in dual training, while providing them with the necessary support to accommodate them under the best conditions.
Offer students the tools and knowledge necessary to quantify the environmental impact of transport operations and familiarize them with the European Union’s policy regarding sustainable logistics.
